The radiant beauty
ID: Painted hand maiden moth (Euchromia polymena)
While traversing the deeper parts of the trail, in search of some interesting sightings along the usually moist patches of the forest, this particular area, just off from the high tide, had huge amount of winged beauties, of a range of types, flocking around and feeding off the moisture laden soil. Amongst them where these vibrant angels, mostly set on the lowest portion of the ground and hardly moving, unsure why, as they hardly seemed doing any activity. Interestingly the hind side/abdomen seemed to be bloated up a bit, atleast compared to the others that were a bit higher from the ground, and much more active than these.

They suck up nutrients and fluids while doing mud puddling. So you may have found the hind side bloated in the ones that are on lower mud flats than on the ones higher on the mudflats. Thanks for sharing.

They are quite colorful. The low angle looks good. Thanks for sharing the detailed behavioral observations. Look forward to more.
