comparing compact superzoom camera with dslr may sound wierd but it may be of help to the beginers.of course compacts have lot of limitations (particularly, you can not raise the iso without compromising the image quality) but you get excellent image stabilization,large aperture,etc.also see "kestrel" shot by compact in 'birds' catagory.
