Invasives are big threats to our forests.
One advantage I can think of Prosopis is that it is an excellent firewood. Atleast the firewood collection from native trees can reduce.
Controlled permission can be issued to villagers to collect firewood from Prosopis in non-core areas which will help in regenration of native trees, control of spread of this exotic tree and cater fuel requirement of villages.
In 2008, the authorities in Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Bharatupur asked the villagers to uproot and take away prosopis trees. The villagers made lot of money and were happy. However, in a place like ranthambhore, it would create lot of disturbance. So it needs to be done in a planned manner.
