Nice composition, habitat well portrayed. I would have preferred slightly higher shutter speed of about 1/400. F8 would have sufficed here to get higher shutter speed.

I agree with Atul. A higher shutter speed here would have been better. I would not use ISO 800 in the 40D. Also, since the deer is parallel to the frame, I would reduce the aperture from f9 to around f6.3. The resulting shutter speed should be fine.
