    shot with 5DIII + 100 mm macro. f/8, 1/200, -0.3, iso 200, 50% cropped. kindly ID of this never seen before spider.

    Gasteracantha hasselti, one of the spiny orb-weaver spiders. This family is found in mainly in rainforests of north-east India and the western ghats. Nice find. Any other compositions?

    A very unique shape of this spider. The semi circular (tentacles?) look very different. Since it is 50% crop, just a bit more space on the right would be good. Good details. Nicely captured. Thanks for sharing.

    Mrudul: The structures you refer to are spines on the abdomen. In most other species of this family, the spines are much smaller.

    Nice image. the one I have seen often in the western ghats is yellow in colour with black spots. as mentioned by abhishek this is the posterior view ..

    This is so interesting. I think when people can see these colourful and interesting creatures, they will realise that our biodiversity doesn't start and end with the tiger.

    Did Salvatore Dali visit India? Seems a lot of people had inspiration from this spider.
