    Default Crab!!!

Finally after getting some respite from my tight schedule went to Valley Park in Navi Mumbai. Heard a lot of bird calls and also saw a cobra in a hole(a very small part was visible). Saw a lot of these crabs. This one was particularly doing something with a leaf. Did not use a flash, the shine on its head is natural.

Nice one. Sharp enough at 1/30, presuming you were handholding. The mouthparts in action add to the image.

Nice behavior captured. Good details at such low shutter speed. Do crabs eat leaves? Thanks for sharing.

Most crabs are detritivores (feeding on decaying organic matter), and would hence take dead leaves.

Nice image, looks like its feeding on the leaf. Did you observe it for a while to check the status of the leaf, how much it has eaten ?

Not really Atul. I observed it for a while and moved away. There was a call from a few people saying saanp... so went ahead only to find a cobra coiled in its hole.

Nice one. Nice colour. They do feed on decaying matter. Nicely documented. I think Mrudul has images of crabs from Sundarbans. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,
