The numbers thrown around 1lakh - 1.4 lakh shocks people.

When poachers can enter into well guarded zoo and kill a tigress, killing birds is childs play. Ooaching of birds has been going on for a long time. In one of the incidents kids slaughtered some 250 birds and sold them to restaurants: http://www.indiawilds.com/forums/showthread.php?p=30403

We have been lax in protecting our wildlife. The challenge is not highlighting poaching. Channels like Aaj Tak, India TV etc dish out fares that keep on benumbing our senses and we have become cynical. We move from one shocking news to another.

In this case some will dispute the numbers. Some will take exception to the fact that this incident is now being linked with India being the President of the Convention on Biological Diversity for the next two years and to make fun of it. Whether India is having presidentship or not doesn't matter. What matters is the implementation of our laws. I hope this news too doesn't meet its natural death after its shock effect wears down.
