    Default Desert Fox in LRK

Photographed this elusive species in LRK in the evening when light was quite low. We had parked the gypsy and were waiting on sighting it at a distance. First it saw and ran, but then it started to go around sniffing here and there and suddenly turned back and came quite close to us. We were quite surprised to see it approaching so close. My first time to sight and photograph this species .

    Canon 1D Mark IV, Canon 100-400mm L IS USM + 1.4x, ISO 800, f8, 1/125, hand held, full frame.

    Comments and critiques welcome..

Nice shot !!! Eyes are so expressive. Would also like to see this shot in a different WB reducing blue shade in the picture.

    Thanks all for the comments.

Anil, I have not changed the white balance it is as shot. Maybe the greyish coat of the fox gives you that feeling. I will check and see if I can adjust the white balance. Thanks.

This sighting was in low light and this is close to the colour as far as I can remember. I have to edit my footage soon. Will share something later.

Lovely eye contact Mrudul. Foxes and jackals are inquisitive by nature. Jackals when chased run and the moment u stop it will stop as well and look back waiting for your next move and if one starts walking back there is good chance it slowly start coming back as well.

Great capture, nice image. WB requires little tweaking and off centered towards left would give better composition. Thanks for sharing.

P.S.: Apropos of my posting dated 21-Jan-2013, I may state that I missed the word 'sniffing' in the write-up of Madam Mrudul. The fox has scent glands in its feet. May be sniffing the ground to find the presence of another fox. If sniffing the air, it may be for the prey. Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild

Shaktipadaji is absolutely right. The fox was sniffing and calling its mate.

Lovely. Probably the most intimate shot of this species I have seen . The eye contact is unbelievable, given how shy this animal is. Any other compositions?
