    Default Indian Pond Heron in early morning light

    The Indian Pond Heron or Paddybird (Ardeola grayii), shot @ Uran wetlands on the outskirts of Mumbai, November 2012.

    EXIF : Canon 60D, Canon 400 mm f/5.6L, Aperture Priority, f/5.6, 1/1250, ISO 400, EC -2/3, Ev.Metering, Full Frame.

    Nice perch and lovely eye contact. The morning light has helped to get nice colours and details. The composition looks good. I think the AF point is on the body. You could have tried using a narrower aperture like f6.3 or f7.1 to get more depth of field to cover the head area. Please check if it is a dust spot in the centre, or something in the background?     The colours have come out well. If the bird is not parallel to the focal plane, then it is better to go for higher depth of field. Were you handholding? Thanks for sharing.

    Sabyasachi Ji, yes it was shot handheld by leaning onto the rear of my car.

    Mrudul Ji, sure I'll do so in future. The speck you see in the BG isn't a dust spot, wonder what it is & on hindsight I guess I could've cloned it out.
