    Default Congestion

these green pigeons flock to this particular site to eat soil, i don't know why? but they come there in hundreds, i waited to take shots of this phenomena for nearly an hour. they landed after sunset so i had to push up ISO had to focus through the blades of tall grasses. image quality is poor but would like to try some day again with proper hide out and gears. it was a real feast to sight.

Fantastic... these are wedge tailed green pigeons and this could be a rare record of geophagy in green pigeons (parrorts ofcourse are known for this). It will be nice if you observe this behaviour and also record a few more images along with location, dates and time and post it in the natural history section. Excellent work Kaling.

Rare behavior photographed. Nice to see so many green pigeons in the same location. Quite difficult conditions to photograph. They come only after sunset? Look forward to see more in the series. Thanks for sharing.

Good documentation of avian behaviour.I have seen photographs of the the parrots of the Amazon valley eating soil off mudbanks. They supposedly do it in order to neutralize the poison from certain fruits and seeds they may have injested during normal feeding activities. This may also be the reason for the pigeons ingesting soil as a large portion of their diet comprises of seeds nuts and fruits. You could let us know the location.TFS

Very nice behaviour. I would love to see this once. Nice to know that green pigeons also engage in geophagy. Thanks for sharing.
