Default Canon 100-400 mm actually gives only 365mm?...

hi , i have been renting and using this canon 100-400mm lense on a 7D body for almost 4 months now but most of my shots comes to only 365 or 370mm focal length maximum and i am 100% sure that i shot them all on full focal length which is 400mm..

i was reading somewhere on google that it gives maximum of 380mm focal length, is it true, i am planning to buy 100-400mm soon.

let me know your feedback on this please

The lens that you have rented may be stuck at 365mm. Also some people forget to pull the lens to the max 400mm focal length as most of the people are not used to it. And there is some superstition among folks in bangalore ands some other places that 365mm gives better quality.

    Hi

Some of the lens get stuck just short of the outer limits. My daughter's 100-400 often returned max focus at 393 for the push pull mechanism was at fault until it was restored to its original 400 by the Canon folks during a service. So, it is surely is a question of setting the push pull system right.

    regards
