Its a night heron. A vertical composition with more space at the bottom to include the legs in full would have been good. A lower ISO and shutter speed would have sufficed here. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the name of the bird. I have been struggling with my photographs in low light particularly when taking wildlife. Couple of months back I went to Sharawati wildlife sanctuary and since it is recommended to take with higher shutter speed for wildlife, hence higher ISO but my images were not good enough. So I was forced to take with lower shutter speed but the result was not good either.

Can you provide me tips for taking better images in low light for wildlife? Thanks in advance.

Hi Uday, While i agree with you that a high shutter definitely provides a lot more sharper images and details, two other components add a lot to stability.

One, as the name 'stability' suggests, a strong mount (tripod, mono pod, bean bag etc) which provides a strong support for your snaps especially when you are at the outer end of your focal length capability of your lens.

Two, an image stabilized lens does add to the stability in low light conditions.

Bumping up the ISO is a good option, but the trade off on the noise is a critical factor, which in turn is highly dependent on the sensor.

So, long story short, a strong mount will surely make a difference.

    regards

    Uday,
I agree with Mrudul and Rajan. Have a look at this article on improving sharpness of your images: http://www.indiawilds.com/forums/showthread.php?268
