Default how many jumbos must a train a kill....before they make it the mascot?

PLEASE DO RAISE YOUR VOICE.REACH OUT TO EVERY AUTHORITY TO SAVE THE MOST MAGNIFICENT YET MOST GENTLE OF THESE ANIMALS.

Take action on recent accident which occurred in Khunia range in Jalpaiguri district killing 7 Elephants.

Elephants are extremely emotional and take great care of their family members just like we do.

After the accident in which 6 elephants died on the spot and more deaths are feared. The herd which was around 40 the, surviving elephants surrounded the train. Not to attach the train but they wanted to save their family members.

The turn of incidents leaves one emotionally drained. One elephant was dragged under the train for 400 meters.

Do such beautiful animals deserve such horrific deaths. The dirty political blame game of center and state has already begun.

Keeping quite is as big a crime lodge your complaint on the below mentioned emails this is the least you can do for the hapless souls.

how can one explain that a train adhering to the prescribed speed limit of 25 kmph can drag a massive body of an elephant for such a long distance as into the middle of the bridge?

Extremely sad to learn that 7 pachyderms were killed in a rail accident. All said and done, we cannot point thet fault to Indian railways, if all of us think rationally, we will realize that it is our fault, the citizens of India. We want to economically develop and build infrastructure for our convenience but do not put adequate measures to ensure no incident or accidents takes place. We are the same people who does not want to pay tax, do not like hike in railway fares, do not like petrol price to increase and vote to a person who makes false promises to the public, that if elected they will ensure at any cost there will no hike in cost of transportation or petroleum products and will empty govt coffers by distributing freebies. Ask yourself, without earning of government or any organization, from which funds any govt or organization will incorporate adequate measure to avoid any incidents or accidents. We humans are selfish and it is good to be selfish for survival, however, in our country we go to extremes in our selfishness without (or may be knowingly) even realising that our gain may harm someone else. In my opinion, the root cause is we the people of India do not care for another human put aside the wildlife. The day we realize this, no such incidents will occur.

    Arindam,
Thanks for bringing this to our notice. We have to raise our voice to stop this gruesome slaughter.

About a decade ago, I had corresponded with the late "Billy" Arjan Singh during one such accident, and Billy had written to the ministry. Today we don't have such charismatic champions of wildlife. So it is imperative that we the public, come together to raise our voice. Please check for the novermber issue of IndiaWilds Newsletter (Vol. 5 Issue XI) and the campaign details. We are trying to reach a wider audience and request them to write letters and emails.
