Default Malabar Pit Viper | Greenish Brown Morph

Malabar Pit Viper (Trimeresurus malabaricus) | Agumbe, Karnataka

The Malabar Pit Viper is a small arboreal snake endemic to the Western Ghats. During the monsoon, this snake is very common, seen resting on shrubs and trees by day and active by night. Like most pit vipers, it is generally a sluggish snake, but is surprisingly quick if alarmed. The venom causes moderate symptoms in humans which subside in a few days.

This species occurs in several very different colour morphs. I was lucky enough to photograph many of these, will share more images soon.

    Thanks, C&C welcome.
