Default Aerial view of Ashtamudi Lake and Kallada River

The Ashtamudi lake is the second largest back water system in Kerala's Quilon district. On the right is the Kallada river draining into the Ashtamudi lake.

Nice view. The Ashtamudi lake looks quite big. As it is meeting the sea, is it a salt water lake? Thanks for sharing.

nice.. Ashtamudi is a starting point for the famous backwaters of Kerala from a tourist perspective. it is a Ramsar site which is now at its lowest as a backwater ecosystem. heavily polluted and disturbed through human activity, there have been some efforts to restore atleast a fraction of its past natural beauty and balance of late. but many feel it is beyond healing.

Thanks for the info Roopakji.Made a Google search and found out what is Ramsar!
It looks as if the future is bleak for these backwaters. But my mind says they may survive after all.....

    Regards
