    Default LRK Diary Feb-15

Some places in the world are known for lush greenery, others for steep cliffs and snowy glaciers and others still for refreshing water lapping against hot beaches , but of all the landscapes in the world, Little Rann of Kutch (LRK) is known for its habitant of wild ass.

These creatures look like a cross between a donkey and a horse. They're slightly bigger than a donkey, and are fast and strong like a horse.

Unfortunately, the Wild Ass Sanctuary is in danger from several sources, and the poachers who have begun to frequent the region are not even the greatest of these. Illegal salt mining tops the list, as a full quarter of India's salt comes from mining around the Little Rann.

Nice image of a species on the brink...being a highly specialised species which is intricately linked to the habitat they are extremely sensitive to any kind of disturbance. It is very sad to see such species being pushed to the brink after having adapted to some of the most difficult habitats in such amazing ways over hundreds of years of evolution. With just one stroke we wipe them out forever. And when one learns for what, that when the tragedy becomes unbearable...sometimes for even something as silly and misplaced as creating green cover...yes green cover.

Nice galloping pose. Looks like it is running away from some jeep? The image has a lot of yellow tint. Correcting the white balance would strengthen the image. Thanks for sharing.

Nice composition. The mid air pose looks nice. The number of salt mines inside the sanctuary have increased and you can see one or two families staying near each salt mine. With so many humans staying inside the santuary the wilderness feeling is lost. Not sure how the FD is giving permissions . Thanks for sharing.
