Black Tailed Godwit in Sambar Lake

A Black Tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) : They mainly eat invertebrates, but also aquatic plants in winter and on migration. In the breeding season, prey includes beetles, flies, grasshoppers, dragonflies, mayflies, caterpillars, annelid worms and molluscs. Occasionally, fish eggs, frogspawn and tadpoles are eaten. In water, the most common feeding method is to probe vigorously, up to 36 times per minute, and often with the head completed submerged. On land, black-tailed godwits probe into soft ground and also pick prey items from the surface. (From Wikipedia).


Saw this beautiful bird in a small waterbody next to Sambar Lake.

Lovely image. The low angle looks nice. Good pose and eye contact. I feel a more rectangular composition would have been better than the present square framing. Nice light. Thanks for sharing.

nice.the muddy beak has its tale. they area funny sight with the head almost submerged in the sand along the edge of receding waveline..

Nice one. The speed at which they keep on probing the mud makes me feel that the neck muscles would be really strong.
