    Default RTR Diary June-16-Monitor lizard.

It's raining time in Ranthambore. It can ruin a day for many, and drive people indoors . However in the natural realm it is the giver of life, and it brings things out of hiding - often in great numbers!

    Canon EOS 7D Mark II , f/4 , EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM Lens from Canon , ISO-400 , -0.7 step , Handheld , full frame.

Nice sighting. Nice composition. This speckled brown specimen normally not seen here. It is Common Indian or Bengal Monitor (Varanus bengalensis) not Desert Monitor (Varanus griseus) which is also found in Rajasthan. It has come out in search of snakes or eggs. Thanks for your series. Nice to see it on the high ground in the open. Liked the pose. Normally we don't get to see its long tail. Good eye contact. What was the aperture and the shutter speed? Is the AF point is locked on the body? Thanks for sharing.
