Default Gittu ? (Id help, please ! ) - TATR

Canon SX60 HS, 1/160, f/6.5, 247 mm, ISO-250. Cropped and Basic PP in GIMP.
Clicked in TATR on 4th Jun, 2016.

The 2nd day of our three day trip to TATR, the day of grind. It was the fag end of an exacting safari, we decided to go for birds at a waterhole, as the jeep took a turn this brat ran to a fallen tree trunk and hid there, looking at us.

I asked for its name, the guide said, they call it ‘Gittu’. Id help, please!

Sharp eyes, superfast action, superb framing have produced one of the rarest of rare images. Congratulations Subhash bhai. Quick identification by Abhishek bhai, nice. Thanks for sharing. SaktiWild

Great to see this one. Too often people mistake it for the common squirrel and don't click it. Gittu in which language? Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

Hi Abhishek, Mrudul, Saktida, Debasis and Sabya; Thanks for viewing and sharing your views. I was also under the impression that it might be some kind of squirrel like Grizzled Squirrel , Thanks Abhishek, for the identification.

It was the second time I saw it. During the first sight i got confused and could not click. I asked my kid what he thought it was, he said affirmatively that it was not the common squirrel as there were no lines on the back. So I was prepared and in anticipation when I saw it second time. Though it ran quickly but it settled down for some moments on the tree trunk as it got superbly camouflaged among the twigs so much so that this time my kid could not locate it and was angry for not being able to click (he caries Nikon P510, my earlier camera).

Sabya sir, The Guide who was from a nearby village told me that they call it 'Gittu'. Not sure whether it is in the local slag or in the language of Gond Tribes.
