Default Lonely Crusader - Indian Marsh Mongoose

Indian Marsh Mongoose or Bengal Mongoose is now categorized as Endangered Species in India. The main threat is habitat (i.e. wetlands or marshy lands) loss. The East Kolkata wetlands may be the last habitat of this species. I was quite lucky to see that species in front of my eyes. I had managed to get a distant shot.

Lucky sighting. Nice alert pose captured. There is no inviolate habitat for these species to survive. Even in this photograph there can be seen some plastic(?) bag in the background . Which place is this? Thanks for sharing.

Rare and lovely. Black colour on the muzzle extending upto eye is clear. East Kolkata wetlands of about 125 sq.km is Ramsar site. No doubt human pressure is there but pest, chemical, feed used for
pisciculture and insecticide used in growing vegetables are major threat. Thanks for sharing. SaktiWild

Sir you are quite aware of these facts. The harmful anthropogenic activities is still going on along the side the pressure of urbanization.

Cute pose. It is trying to survey its surroundings before deciding which way to move. Hope someone can create a note about this wetlands.

    Cheers,
