    Default Langur Mating

Black faced Langur Semnopithecus entellus mating in Bandipur Tiger Reserve, India

The mating lasted for 5 seconds. It should be noted that the hind legs of the male are not on the ground when it mounted on the female. Initially the female had her head turned towards her right. After 2 seconds she turned her head to look back at her mate. The male then lowered his head and appeared to make an attempt to bite her neck momentarily. The female turns her head to look straight. The male looks up and shows his dentures.

Photographed with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II, Canon EF 400mm f2.8 L IS USM lens, ISO 200, f3.5, 1/800

This is the last image of the series. The male bares his teeth and then disengages.

    Nice actions caught.
I had never seen about those hind legs and also mating on ground. Mostly I have seen them on tree barks.
    Thanks & Regards

Lovely series... Had seen this yesterday but was busy with presentations and submissions so commenting now...

Sabyasachi This is awesome. If animals could sue, they'd definitely do so to you... :P

    Bibhav,

Animals mate for procreation. Not for pleasure like we humans do. They won't find anything wrong in me photographing them. So I know they won't sue even if they had the power.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi
