    Default Grandala

Grandala coelicolor | Above Lachen, Sikkim (~3200m asl)

A species of thrush-like bird found in the mid-to-high elevations of the Himalayas. They are gregarious, and in the non-breeding season form huge flocks. This individual was in a flock of about 400, and in total, I saw about 650 individuals in the area within a span of a few minutes. Although I could not spend a whole lot of time there, I was able to make a lot of images at varying focal lengths. Throughout this trip, the weather (continuous rain or snow) made the light very poor, but the birding was excellent.

    ISO 1600
    Minor crop

    Thanks, C&C welcome.

Beautiful composition. Nice perch and eye contact. The bird in the background looks like its mirror image . Thanks for sharing.

Sweet! When did you shoot it? Share the date, so we know when it is found.

Did you click a vertical? Love this beautiful bird. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks Mrudul and Sabyasachi.

Date - 6th March, 2017. This bird's movements in the Himalayas are very unpredictable though. I thing one has to rely largely on luck to come across them.

Sabyasachi - I did shoot verticals, but only a few shots turned out well with the bird in the open and with good eye contact. This is one of the better shots.
