    Default Sambars in Distress:PTR

Drama was unfolding at Thekkady (Periyar Tiger Reserve) as these Sambars were dealing with a pack of wild dogs. They are looking at one of their team member being devoured ruthlessly by the Dholes. These Sambars were standing probably just 100m from the dogs!We didn't witness the hunt but this was the after-the-hunt scene!

Nice jungle drama with such a large herd of sambar in alarm with tail up congregating in the water body for survival against the pack of wild dogs aptly recorded. One could not join them. For all others ' Their day has not yet come.' Thanks for sharing. SaktiWild.

The alert behaviour of sambars is nicely captured. We had witnessed a similar incident in Bandipur a few years back. The only difference was that the mother and fawn were surrounded by dholes and she stayed in the water the whole time (lasted for whole night) and protected her fawn. Finally the dholes gave up. Is there a slight tilt? Thanks for sharing.

Nice scene. Wish you had got a shot with wild dogs, however, if you are saying that the Sambars were far off, then it becomes difficult. Did you get any shot of wild dogs on the kill?

Thanks for your comments....Sabyaji here is one pic which I managed with Sambars and the Wild dogs.Since the Dholes are looking tiny in the pic I didn't post it earlier.
