    Default Elephant - Mouth wash

Was fascinating to see the Elephant shoot water jet streams into the mouth. Probably their version of a Flush Floss - if you will :-)

Kabini - Zone B, around 5:30 PM. Cloudy day with low light

A quick look reveals the presence of 5 elephants. But a closer look reveals the 6th one!I would have loved to take a bath from an elephant jet!(Not sure how it would smell!).Nice image and I am guessing that they would have entered the stream and taken bath!

    Regards

What a lovely behaviour so aptly captured. It is drinking by sucking water up the trunk and then squirting it down its throat. Thanks for sharing. SaktiWild

Thanks Saktipada, in fact, there was a little one in the group (not the one behind the two, an even smaller one - maybe a week old) which was in all sorts of quandary trying to drink off the stream. It was outright hilarious . . . I have the video grab which i will post a link to - shortly

    regards

Thanks Shankar. Strangely, they took turns getting to the front drinking and moved back into the woods

Nice sighting of this tight group of females and calves. I think they were not all getting into water at the same time as there were young calves as you have mentioned. Good details and nice behavior photographed. Thanks for sharing.

I really liked the image and I would say that this image is all about timing where they entered the stream.

Nice capture. I would prefer to just concentrate on the front two elephants and leave lot of space to show the pool as well. The happenings at the back attracts our attention as well. Elephants take great care to choose and drink from the forest pools as they are susceptible to infection. When water is scare, one can find elephants drinking in a hierarchy. Using the 100-400 to capture a wider setting would have also helped. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

PS: Elephants can blow water at great force on their bodies.
