    Default Young Tusker at Mudumalai

We were pretty close to a tiger kill and were returning after waiting to catch a glimpse of the tiger (which we did not) when we came across this young tusker. Not bothered by the stench of the kill it was moving about in the area. We stopped for a few seconds and continued moving ahead. The tusks were quite impressive considering the size of the elephant and would grow well over a period of time. It was surprising that one half of the elephant was wet considering the fact that there was no water hole nearby.

Looks like a adolescent. Agree it has got nice long pointed tusks. It seems there might be some water hole in the interior parts of the jungle. Liked the display of habitat. Thanks for sharing.

Nice habitat shot if the elephant. It seems to be on deep thought about something that had happened earlier in its foraging thru the jungle!

Nice image of the youth. Solid divergent barrel type tusks under development. Immersed in thought ... !

Hopefully one day it will grow to adulthood to become a giant with massive tusks. Looks like you were shooting in low light. A +1/3 exposure compensation would have been even better. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

You are spot on Sabyasachi, it was nearing park closing hours and the light was considerably low. We did not expect the tusker close to the tiger's kill, dialing a positive exposure would definitely have been better. Thanks for the comment.

Nice one! It looks like that it is in search of food and got teird. But, it will grow old with long tusk.
