The leopards of Bera in Rajasthan have been living in harmony with humans for decades.This village in Rajasthan continues to script an unusual story of mutual love and respect between leopards and human beings.
A closer look at a world in Bera, Rajasthan where people share a spiritual connection with leopards and man-animal conflict is largely absent.
Forty years ago, half a dozen of these leopards had descended from the nearby Kumbhalgarh National Park nestling in the Aravalli Hills and into the rocky mountains of Bera looking for browner pastures. Though it was the village of Bera that caught the imagination of nature lovers for the unusual sight of leopards walking elegantly on rocky slopes, there are actually over a dozen leopard sites that surround Bera in a radius of 10 km. And this area is known as Jawai Leopard Conservation Zone(A must visit place for any wildlife enthusiast).

Bera sets an example of how humans and leopards can have a peaceful co-existence. They understand the animal behavior and are not threatened knowing that leopards are staying so close to their homes. In other places, people get alarmed and resort to attacking the animal (with stones or sticks) by just sighting it.

The barren hills and the cactus vegetation on the right helps to display the typical habitat of the place. One can also see that the leopards kind of camouflage nicely with the terrain. Is this a mother and cub? Thanks for sharing.

Great that you sighted a mother and cub. It can be tough to click there due to the distance of the sightings.

There are many hillocks in rajasthan which have leopards, thanks to the rural nature of the state. You can even find them in hillocks around Sariska. Thanks for sharing.
