Default The sifting of the stilts

    ID: Black winged stilt

While we were busy waiting for the first sight of the Sun for 2020, a cliché that most of us, i.e photographers, always tend to enjoy, spotted several bird activities happening around. Though I was in the mindset to frame the sun first, and also the fact that there was very less light, framing these activities seemed of less fruitful task. Eventually though, even after the huge delay, mostly due to the smog, once the glimpse of sun was captured shifted my focus onto these stilts that seemed to have taken perch on the mound of marsh, few meters away. But as usual, after spotting me approaching them, they flew off, only to return back after 10-15 mins. Interestingly these beauties seemed to be doing some awkward activity, and on close observation, through zoom lens, realized that they were flicking the top layer of the marsh, probably in a quest to feed on the worms or organisms found underneath? Here is the frame where the act of sifting was captured/frozen.

    Happy New Year .

Nice activity captured. As you have mentioned, I think they would eating the insects in the sand. I am not sure, but the image seems to be a bit soft? Is this a crop? Thanks for sharing.
