    Default Indian Golden Jackal

Canis aureus Linneus .Recently the numbers of this animal has gone down drastically because of poaching . From' least concern' it has come down to ' endangered' Crimes against the less charismatic species often goes unnoticed in India .The so called 'jackal horn ' trade is fuelled by extensive endorsement and unsubstantiated claims made by religious practitioners .I was lucky enough to see a pack of four in the Cauvery Wild life sanctuary in June while on a drive through the forest .Nikon 850+200-500 ,ISO 1100 ,1/1250 ,F/8 .

Wow, looks like it stopped to pose for you. Loved the composition here and the eyes are so captivating. The narrow aperture has helped. Lovely capture. Thanks for sharing.

Nice sighting. I like the look back pose. The jackal is not obstructed by any vegetation. I love their spirit. I had once seen a jackal chasing a Nilgai in bharatpur. Once they were numerous and howling in packs in the evenings. I miss those sounds. These jackals perform many ecological functions and hence should be protected. Thanks for sharing.
