Default Looking out for the holy fig

    ID: Coppersmith barbet

While returning from the trail suddenly spotted this beauty that came and settled onto the tree, unaware about my presence in its vicinity, this beauty, once the bird of Mumbai, was too concerned in searching the figs, the fruits that the peepal tree bears. It just kept on hopping from one branch to other until it could locate and break off the fruit and kept on chewing/crushing and feeding on it.

A slightly lower camera position would have ensured that there is some separation between the head and the leaf. One fruit bearing tree can be home to so many species. It is often a joy to watch these birds enjoy their fill. In the wild, waiting near one such tree can often throw many surprise sightings. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pose. The catchlight on the eye looks good. Good you kept some space around to show the habitat. Its a very active bird. There are some white cheeked barbets on the rain tree in front of our house. Its fun to watch them . Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful image. Fruiting trees support a large number and
different species of birds. I had chanced upon a fruiting fig tree in Nallamalla Tiger reserve. There were verditer flycatchers , yellow footed green pigeons , imperial green pigeons and copper smith barbets on that tree. Thanks for sharing.
