Default Drama even before reaching our destination-Sariska!

Even before reaching Tehla Gate,Sariska drama was awaiting us!...we were approaching Tehla gate and the driver stopped the car and said "Leopard".We saw a Leopard feeding on a domestic kill.We watched it for about 10 minutes and it disappeared into the thicket.(This happened in 2017.The time was 930pm)..

Canon 80D,Canon 100-400 IS II USM,f5,1/40,ISO 800 at 176mm (shot with the cars headlights on).

    Regards

This was a lovely sighting. A lot of people feel that leopards can't/won't kill cows. They will when they get a chance. Smaller sized prey becomes easier to kill and also carry. So even if a cow calf is in the compound the leopard picks up a goat and jumps over. Why to kill something which you can't carry?

Nice click. Sariska on lap of Araballi Hills has always been a good leopard habitat.
When I visited Sariska in October 1970, I heard about tigers killing village Buffaloes. Once a tiger had to face counter attack from a herd and the fury of tiger subsided only after killing five buffaloes.
I found a good number of Sambar of Sariska were very large and healthy.

A very lucky sighting .It is however most surprising that it was feeding on the kill so close to the road since the leopard is known to be the most secretive and elusive of the cats .Thanks for sharing .

Lucky you got to see it with the kill and that to in the open near the road. With less natural prey base they have to depend on the livestock. Thanks for sharing.

Nice image. It is surely a thrilling experience when you sight something such as a leopard when you are not in a safari. I had sighted 'Khali' , the alpha of the tadoba buffer zone during night on the main road that leads to moharli. Thanks for sharing.
