The crest looks nice. It seems you were close. Did you click it from a boat? If the lighting would have been bit more from the left or behind you then there would have been a catchlight in the eye. Of course, then the crest would have not looked different.
Nature has designed unique bill shapes for birds based on their specific food habits. So close observation of the bills often teaches us what is the main food of the bird.
