    Default Male Purple Sunbird

This was taken the same day as the Female Sunbird. We had the couple visiting our garden. The Male bird has very bright metallic colours and it is such a pleasure to watch them.. C&C are welcome

    Camera: Nikon D90
    Exposure: 0.006 sec (1/160)
    Aperture: f/8.0
    Focal Length: 200 mm
    ISO Speed: 200

Nice and sharp. I like the composition. Even at the slower shutter speed of 1/160th of second, you have got it sharp. They normally don't remain stationary at one place for long. Just a few seconds. So it is good that you could capture it.

The male sunbird is colourful but is difficult to expose. I would open up the shadows a bit more so that the eye is rendered better. The flower appears nice. You can post upto 800 pixels in the longest side. That would make for better viewing. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

Nice sharp image. Liked the composition. The narrow aperture has got the flowers nicely in focus as well. Thinking if a vertical composition would work as well.

    Look forward to more..

Nice & sharp image Anu, I agree with Sabyasachi opening up the shadows may help the visibility of the eyes. Also it would have been nice if the BG was diffused, the subject would stand out.

Download the Adobe Ligthroom 2.5, Sabyasachi has put down steps for post processing. You will find this in discussion forum - Photography tips. Even I was using photshop and Picasa, only recently i started Lightroom and its really good. The water mark and the max Width/Height allowed 800x800 can all be predefined and its easy.

Nice image. Good that you got it sharp. I agree that opening up the shadows will help bring out details better.

    All, thanks for the comments.

One question -- How do I open up the shadows ? I use Picasa and have mainly used 'Auto Contrast', 'Auto Colour' features.

    Thanks for your patience

    Hi Anu,
Picassa does not give you much options when it comes to opening shadows. You may try using photoshop or lightroom in that case. What i can suggest in picassa, is that you use the fill light option and then reduce the highlights which would creep in when fill light is introduced.

sharp and colourful image.i know how difficult it is to capture this bird..i think you should avoid putting your name in image area.
