The males ride on top of the females during the mating process. They float on the surface of the water as a cascade during the process. They are wonderful docile creatures. Ridleys come in numbers upto 2 lakhs every year to Orissa for mating and nesting. Unfortunately around 17-18 thousand die every year. A major portion of these deaths is due to turtles getting caught in trawler nets and drowning.
