    Arrow Sarkarpathy - Aliyar

The tree on the left is the road-sign that exactly replicates the road ahead.

There is a canal that runs parallel to the road on one side of the forest boundary and other side you will find farms. This road is an interesting road for birders.

This place in Anaimalais was once the haven for elephants. But, now it has become their death trap.

During the release of water from upstream reservoirs, there is a rapid violent current and many elephants have been washed away. Especially the calves. The man made canal is so narrow.

Recently there are breaches in the canal which acts as a blessing for elephants. If the breaches are repaired, elephants will find the place unsuitable. There are several representations from humans (much to the displeasure of animals) to repair the breaches..

Besides this canal, monoculture plantations of Eucalyptus now prevail over the once verdant forests depleting the forage base.

There are coconut groves in patches within the forest which aggrevates the conflicts between man and wild animals.

The photography looks appealing, but the place has a sad background to share...

A nice image. I like the road's curves Reducing the highlights in the background would be nice.

Nice composition. The bending road leads the eye. The depth of field is nice.

It does look like a dense jungle road. Its sad that people are not aware of the animal behaviour and how our actions are affecting their lives.

Thanks Mohan to let us know about this place. Thanks Lakshminarayanan to share the inside story.

Thanks everybody. Lakshminarayanan, your words added a true drama to the photo. FYI the major canal breach was plugged.

I liked the curve as well.. Thanks for sharing !!

Frankly. the concept of plantations of Eucalyptus trees these days surprises me !! With the water table running very low in some areas, these trees surely would draw a tremendous amount of water from the soil through the process of transpiration.. Cutting down a dense forest towards these plantations is a very sad story indeed.. Well, perhaps the government is thinking in terms of alternative benefits.. Timber, medicinal purpose, bio fuels, soil salination etc? But..ALL AT A COST..;-)
