    Default Montagu Harrier Female

The same bird Praveen posted, from my angle . We photographed it from different angles. I wish the small bush was not present, so the tail would have been visible.

    Canon 50D, 100-400mm L IS USM, ISO 200, f8, 1/400, hand held, full frame

    Comments and critiques welcome.

Nice image Mrudul, great eye contact. You could have tried and gone a bit closer as she was quite friendly, we spent almost 10 mins or more with her.

Nice environmental image. It is nice that you got it full frame without cropping. The head turn is good.

Moving closer would have meant, losing out on the habitat image and creating portraits. I don't think it is possible to create portraits with a 400mm unless the bird is highly cooperative and unless you crop a lot.

When I started photography, despite using only a 300mm lens, I used to always try to go closer and ignore portraying the habitat. After getting a long lens, am increasingly looking at portraying habitat shots. Infact, habitat shots are much more difficult. These days people crop a lot, even after using 500mm with converters, because they are unable to understand the importance of habitat shots.

    Cheers,

Lovely. I like the composition a lot. The eye is sharp and well lit. The DOF is adequate. Well done...
