Vikram,
The Sun is too bright. Point the camera at the Sun and note the meter reading. Then you can set that manually and then shoot.
Else, just dial in negative exposure compensation and you will see that the Sun is not burnt. You can check you histogram after clicking the image. In this case, you will find that that graph touches the right side. That means portions of the image is burnt and details are lost.
