We were attending a wedding a few days ago at a little village down south (near Chidambaram) and caught this one perched on a neem tree, near a paddy field. Have been trying to identify this sepcies on quite a few books including Salim Ali's and your snap just came in on time. Hope this is the same one.

I like the composition. The two branches frame the bird nicely. A side profile would have been nice.
