Elephant and Neem tree
An lone tusker in musth rubs its back against the neem tree. Some of the male elephants in Coimbatore region has blunt tusks like this one. This elephant has dusted its body with red soil and can notice the musth discharge at the sides of the head.
Photograph taken late evening when this elephant came out to nearby brick kilns to drink water.

Nice composition. I liked the raised trunk and the way it is (resting)? against the tree. The signs of Musth phase are clearly visible. Thanks for the information.

Nice picture. You seem to be in a very safe zone despite being close. The embankment will be difficult for the tusker to negotiate if in case he decides to put your shoes to test ..
It is very painful to note the plight of elephants in Coimbatore - where the forests are rapidly vanishing.
I heard several stories during this summer about elephants (mostly bulls) venturing in to villagers and fields (all quite recently sprung up inside forests) in desperate search of water.
These gentle guys seldom harm people despite the persecution.
