    Default Ornate Flying Snake

    Ornate Flying Snake Chrysopelea ornata.
Saw this gorgeous reptile at Dandeli WLS recently. Glides from branch to branch by contracting its belly to form a U-shaped concave depression which acts like a parachute, simultaneously using its tail to maintain balance. Mildly venomous.

Camera Model Name Canon PowerShot SX10 IS
    Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE
    Tv (Shutter Speed) 1/80
    Av (Aperture Value) 4.5
    Exposure Compensation -1
    ISO Speed 100
    Cropped.
Forgot to try a narrower aperture... :-P

    Thanks, C&C welcome.

    Abhishek,
Thanks for sharing this beauty. Very nice catch. I wish you could have caught this in the canopy.

Sabyasachi: This snake was discovered by some schoolkids who were playing on a nearby lawn. It had just had a meal (visible as a bulge) and was hence quite sluggish. Their accompanying teacher seemed quite knowledgeable about wildlife, so no one harmed it.

Nice to see this beauty. The details and colours are nice. It is good to know that the school teacher was aware about wildlife , I was just thinking when you mentioned that some school kids saw it.

Thanks for sharing the detailed information. Look forward to more from Dandeli.
