Red face Where to find birds near Bhubaneswar?

    Hi..
Anyone got an idea, where we can find birds near or outside Bhubaneswar ?
I have been to CIFA last week and found a lot of them, but looking for new places right now, since CIFA security guard has been a pain, looking at my guns. :P

    Anyone ?

There are a few places on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. Most of the areas are being filled up. Have you tried Sisolo village? I think it is about 18 odd kms from the Lingaraj temple. There are a few village ponds after CIFA. Don't know how they are this year.

A bit far from bhubaneswar and you reach Mangalajodi in Chilika. I think that is about 70kms from Old town, bhubaneswar. It would be less if you are on the other side of town.

Drive down in the NH5. On the left side will come Jankia, Rampur and then Tangi. Ask for mangalajodi there. Tell you have come for wildlife. the place is about 36 kms before balugaon.

I too hadn't heard about the Sisolo village. Came to know from a localite and had driven there. It is on the road to pipili. There are many small villages with good ponds and you would find birds there.

    36km from Balugaon ?

Website says, Manglajodi is 75kms from BBSR and Chilika is 80kms from BBSR.

Balugaon is same as Chilika, I guess.

Balugaon is part of chilika. If you have to go to Nalabana, then go to barkul (panthanivas) and then take a boat from there. Chilika is huge. 80kms can be any part of Chilika. I was there in mangalajodi last to last week. Will post a detailed note soon.

I have contacted one EcoTourism guy, Dr.Pankaj Sharma to show me around.
Not sure, what those guys are going to charge.

Yes, I want to see Nalabana, since my friend said, most of the birds are found there.

    Ok, waiting for your note.

Please inform me in this thread, once posted.

Got the images up at Flickr or somewhere, so I can see ?

You can check the images posted in the birds section.

You can call Nanda dada (Nanda Kishore Bhujabal ). Am too sleepy. Will send you his number later. He converted the poachers into bird protectors. The Mahavir Pakshi Suraksha Samiti got the Biju Patnaik award (CMs award). No one knows about that part of Chilika more than Nanda dada and one guy called Madhu. Off late, there are other agents and youngsters who are trying to ride the wave. Better to go with the Mahavir Pakshi Suraksha samiti as they know the area best and then the revenue goes to the locals themselves instead of middle men. The charges are nominal and same for all. Tell my name and they will give you personal service.
