The perch is nice. The light is very harsh. There are some parts on the back and on the stem which are over exposed and lost details. Is this a crop? It is always good to photograph in the early morning or late evening when the light is less harsh. Thanks for sharing.

Try using a reflector to soften the light. You can use even a cardboard or thermocol sheet that comes in the packing along with your TV or other electronic items. Throwing back some light into the darker areas using such a reflector will help you in getting the dark parts/under parts lighted better as well as softening the scene.

Thank you.. you gave a good idea of reflector..
I read many times about this reflector against light..

but this type insect, if feel's any little danger, fly away or ran away..
and we can't get shot.. and i know In this shot, my little shadow came over a dragon fly, vanished!!!..
I try many times not to get direct light.. But i failed..

so.. if you know any function or setting from camera to reduced this harsh light or other technique. it will be helpful..

    Thank you..

If you have to shoot in harsh light then you need to either throw back some light into the scene to light up the dark areas or compose in such a manner that similar tonalities are covered in the image. So if you zoom in to only the dark areas, then you can expose accordingly and avoid the bright highlights.

To open up the dark shadow areas, I had suggested reflecting some light via a reflector. You can also use a flash as a fill light with a diffuser, so that the dark areas get some light. Most often people starting photography use flash as the main source of light. However, flash has an important role to play to light up the shadow areas. If done well, the results come good.

Also, if you know the dragon flies are coming to a particular place, then you can always set the relectors and then move from one perch to the other. So when the subject comes back to the perch with a reflector, you can shoot without having to shove a reflector under the dragonfly.

    Cheers,
