    Default Blitzkreig

Taking forward this post again with the habitat series...

The Brahminy Kite was constantly diving and trying to get to the fish before the egrets. Almost felt like the airforce picking out soldiers and taking the kill from the army.

    Comments and critiques welcome.
    Full Frame image.

    Canon 1000D, 420mm
    SS 1/500 (1/3 EC)
    f/6.3
    ISO 400

I chose a +1/3 EC here as I anticipated that the image would expose according the average intensity of the scene and the whites would dictate the corresponding exposure. Hence to avoid underexposure of the Kite due to the bright whites in the scene. I took a call to let the whites blow but get the kite right.
I would welcome any suggestions which I could have done otherwise for getting the exposure right.

    Bibhav,
Gives us a nice idea about the scene. It is nice to see a bird of prey diving to catch fish.

Less of dried bush on the left would have been better as one egret seems to have its wings stretched just behind the bush. Ofcourse, that is not under your control.

It would have been good if you could have clicked this a moment or two before this, so that the brahminy kite would have been more at the left. At the moment the egret in front cuts across the nicely stretched downward stroke of wings of the Brahminy kite. Having said that, your camera doesn't have a fast frame rate. So you don't have the luxury of firing a "blitzkreig" as the brahminy swoops down. So it is all about getting the timing right. This camera is giving you lot of valuable lessons which will come in really handy when you upgrade.

Keep on clicking. You are getting there.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

Nice display of the habitat. I liked the diving pose, the downward wings and the eye contact. Agree it would have been great if the egret had not blocked the kite, but then that is what wildlife photography is all about :-). Nicely captured. Thanks for sharing.
