Default Id please: Have forgotten my botany

I had photographed this last year in south western ghats.

Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, 35mm, f18, ISO 1600, 1/250 second, hand held. My shoe was giving me problems and I had to take it off and borrow the chappal of the tracker. I was tired physically as well as trying to be careful not to slip. So photography was more of documentation rather than getting a great shot I selected ISO 1600 as I was not confident of getting a sharp shot at lower shutter speed due to exhaustion.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

No idea about the ID, I was never good at botany myself . Maybe Dr. Hari Venkatesh could help with the ID. Any closer shots of the flowers?

    Abhishek,
This was at an altitude of 2400 meters. The vegetation in the shola patches is different than other areas. I was not carrying a macro lens. The main focus was to document Nilgiri Tahr on the slopes so was carrying my heavy 400mm. So no closeups. I even found one kurinji flower. Will try to convert and post.

    Cheers,

    Dear Sabyasachi,
the plant in your post is most probably from the Genus Anaphalis (could be Anaphalis meeboldii or Anaphalis lawii) not sure, belongs to the family of Asteraceae. The species of this Genus are very difficult to identify and needs specimens on hand to describe it properly. There are more than 100 species in this Genus, very few are endemic to the Western Ghats.
    Thanks for reference Abishek

Thanks Hari for the identification. The vegetation in the shola forests are unique. Many of those have medicinal properties. It is important that we protect the sholas for their uniqueness and biodiversity value.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi
