The light was harsh. There are some bright highlights, that can be corrected during post processing. The aperture you have used is f7.1 . It would have been better if you could have photographed it at f9 or f11.
It would have been better if you could have gone down your knees, if not your belly, to click this one. That would have given you a diffused background.

Thanks a lot for the info, Sabyasachi. As for the aperture-mistake, I took this photo a couple of days after i bought the camera, and hardly used to use anything but the auto mode. I try to use manual settings as far as possible nowadays.
