    Default Robber Fly

    Got this image on Miramar beach, Goa. This insect suddenly popped up while I was shooting crabs.

    Need ID of this insect.

    Canon 600D. 55-250mm
    Manual Exposure
    Evaluative meteting
    Shutter Speed 1/800
    Aperture 6.3
    ISO 200
    Focal Length 220mm handheld
    Cropped by 45%

    Please critique.

    It's a Robber Fly (family Asilidae). These are found in a wide range of habitats, and are common on beaches. They are active hunters, you will almost always find one with a catch .

    Wish you were a bit closer to get an image without cropping/less cropping. Did it also land up on you, often they do. I am changing the title else there would be many threads with id please as title.

    Thanks for changing the title Sabyasachi. No it didn't land on me. It can flying, sat on sand for few seconds and flew of.

    I tried to get closer, but had focusing problem as auto-focus was turning back and forth and didn't have time to manually focus.
