Seems like the bird was close to you. You may have tried a slightly lower ISO. Please check where the focus point was locked, in case you use canon equipment. The focus point can be checked using the DPP software.

the bird was close but still not that much. its quite a big crop here. The bird was hidden inside the bushes and i was not getting sufficient light so thats y the higher ISO.

The focus is not exactly on the eye but to a little right.

This is a cute and colourful bird. It is good that you got the face relatively in the clear. Where was it photographed?

Please post the complete camera, lens along with the exif details, so that it becomes easier for us to comment. Also please mention the amount of crop. Most of the times either people forget to add information about crop or some people don't know how to calculate the crop. If the image is slight crop then one need not mention.

Crop calculation: One can just enter this formula in an excel sheet.

Original Pixels of your camera - A and B

Cropped image = A 1 (length) and B1 (height)

Amount of crop = [{(A*B) - (A1*B1)} / A*B]*100

As your technique improves, the images will also improve.

Also, I would prefer to retain more details on the image and hence don't often do noise reduction beyond the default standard in lightroom.

When I was starting to photograph, I was also trying to somehow get a close up image. However, later on I realised the importance of creating environmental images showing the habitat. Certainly not easy to get a pleasing image with the habitat, as there are likely to be distracting elements. Please take it up as a challenge and you will soon see that your images will improve a lot.

Cute bird. Agree with the above comment. Which software do you use for post processing? When you crop a image, try to do a proportional crop, that is in Lightroom there is 'Lock' which helps you to crop the image evenly from all sides, so the subject doesn't look big when you do a big crop.
