Default Himalayan beauties- blue troated barbett

Taken at Manas National park, Seems to be overexposed but could not manage better image as got this fella for 5 Sec.

I have pesonal opinion about bird photographers. The best bird photographer is one who can bring back these buddies of Himalay in neat & clean image.
I konw images in this series are not so good, so more critiques welcome.
Thats why , way to go for me

    C & C welcome

lovely bird capture there... the lighting is a bit harsh but the colour of the bird comes out nicely... sharp capture of the eyes... A bit of the highlights around the beak and toes need to be reduced...
    cheers... great capture overall...

Unfortunately it is looking horrible. The originality of bird is gone my friend. Photographically you may have done great job,but the wilderness is gone. Some images we can use as documents. I personally enjoy some of the worse images of rareitis more than a clean image of common bird.

I hope I am not hurting you but original is quite better

    Harshad,
A beautiful bird. As Bibhav has mentioned, the beak is overexposed. I tried to recover but in the small jpegs it is not always easy. I think you need to try again to recover the details in the beak from the Raw file.

The image is sharp. The head angle is right and eye contact is good. The branch passing behind its head is a bit of distraction. It is not easy to get the bird on a clean perch. So we have to keep on trying to finally get that image. And the satisfaction that you get when you finally get a nice image is immense. That is what keeps all of us going. Keep on sharing these beauties with us.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi , I think you have done quite well & you forced me to dig out RAW file. But in your processing also bird has lost his shining colors

    Thanks

I hadn't seen that Bibhav has done a repost. Bibhav, did you try to work on the colour temp?

    Harshad,
I understand what you are speaking. I reduced the highlights aggressively. That has resulted in the loss of the "shine" and has become dull. That is always a compromise. Normally, highlight recovery using the tone curve I do very less, say about -10 or -15 in lightroom. However, in this case I had gone overboard to tone down the beak. :-)

There is no limit on the reposts in the same thread as that is meant for learning. One can post a max of 2 new threads in 24 hours.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

No. I reduced the highlights and marginally increased the contrast which unfortunately led to the image becoming 'hotter'. I also reduced the saturation slightly.

    Harshad,

It's a good image but the BG is harsh. Still further we must be concerned about the photography per se.
