    Default Forest Glory

Clear-winged Forest Glory Vestalis gracilis. Photographed in Cotigao. These are large damselflies, measuring almost 5cm in length. Large numbers can be found resting in bushes along forest paths.

    Canon 500D, 100mm Macro USM
    SS 1/80
    Av 8.0
    EC -1&1/3
    ISO 800
    Full frame.
Pulled down the highlights on the twig.
Self-critique: Should have positioned the damselfly a little lower in the frame, and avoided the OOF twig by moving to the left. I'm not quite happy with this image... but would like to know your views and critiques too.

    Thanks, C&C welcome.

I love the eyes here and the details on the thorax. I agree with you composing it with the head slightly lower in the frame would have been better. The slightly Out of Focus 'hairy' legs look good to me. Any head on images of the fella
    Thanks for Sharing.

Bibhav, I would have loved to shoot a head-on image, but didn't manage it. This was the best angle I could shoot from, avoiding intervening vegetation and maintaining a reasonably steady posture. (And the other one which we had a clear view of was a little beyond my reach .)

The eyes look nice. Agree with you about placing it a bit lower in the frame and that would have also helped to include the body in full. The different shades of green have come out nicely. Nicely captured. Thanks for sharing.

These are really hard to meter and compose due to large size and thin bodies.. They also have a tendency to always land at the most inappropriate places from a lighting point of view. Nice image loved the texture on the thorax.

lovely image abhishek. the details are nice and the legs inspite of being out of focus seem fine. the eyes look nice. Did you click any images with the wings spread out or in focus??

    Thanks all.
Murugan: I have a side-on record image clicked from some distance away to accommodate the entire body and wings. Will share it for ID purposes.

I agree that the full body would have been better. However, more than that, the out of focus twig bothers me more as it attracts attention.
