Unhappy sick and injured vultre chicks but no help from Forest dept

in the last month the voulanteers at van chetna kendra ahmedabad have received more than 10 severely de-hydrated chicks of WBV which had fallen down from their nests. the chicks had to be treated at a private vet clinic because there was no help from forest dept officers for this. all the expenses for their treatment, food, and other expenses were shared by the voulanteers. though van chetna kendra is a premises of forest dept. this is the attiude of their dept. for the birds which are declared as schedule 1 birds.
please call the chief conservator of forest Ghandhinagar Mr. Khanna to draw his attention on this thing:+91-9978406163 or Mr.Jagdish Prasad: +91-9978406168

Its heartening to know that you manged to rescue all the chicks.

The Forest Department is usually not equipped to handle such situations. Still, the kind of reaction you claim you received is sad. Usually they are supposed to do the minimal job of sending the injured animal/s to the nearest zoo which usually has a vet and minimal infrastructure to handle such situations.

Which officer did you contact in this case? What was his/her answer to your request for help?

In such situations, it is usually more productive to work through relatively senior officers of DFO or higher ranks. They are usually more careful about their and the department's image because of their seniority.

    regards,
    Aditya
