Sabysachi Patra wildlife photographer and Wildlife Filmmaker

IndiaWilds™ was conceived by Sabyasachi Patra a passionate wildlife filmmaker, photographer, and conservationist.

Sabyasachi is an award winning cameraman and filmmaker who is passionately criss-crossing India in his SUV to document the fast vanishing wildlife of India. He uses his Canon Cinema EOS C300 camera as well as Canon 1D C and Go Pro 3 cameras to get the desired footage. His deep knowledge of animal behaviour makes him move close to large mammals and get the desired footage that would have been otherwise impossible to get.

Sabyasachi uses Canon's long tele lenses as well as wides and believes in using the heavy OConnor fluid head and tripod for stable footage, even in treacherous terrain. He is adept in sound recording using Sound Devices recorders and various microphones including shotgun and parabolic microphones. He is well versed in editing in Final Cut Pro X (FCP X).

Sabyasachi believes that conservation is perceived to be the domain of the elitist and hence has failed in India. To make conservation broad-based and increase the participation of the common man, in 2008 he launched IndiaWilds an online Conservation and Wildlife Photography Forum and he has been creating films for showcasing conservation issues..

He believes that wherever logic and reason fails to stir us into taking action to preserve our environment, beautiful images and films will help in striking an emotional chord and moving people.

His first film “A Call in the Rainforest”, an 18 and half minute documentary has been screened and receieved accolades in the following Film Festivals-

He has been writing a monthly newsletter for the past three years on conservation issues and the newsletter is circulated to around 10000 people. He encourages more than 3000 members of IndiaWilds and the 10000+ readers of his newsletter to voice their protest by writing directly to the concerned authorities.

A tireless activist, he has contributed images, articles and resources for saving many wilderness places from ill-conceived power plants, large industries etc. He believes for every battle won in the conservation arena, there are a thousand that are lost.

He is also a firm believer in using the power of technology for conservation. He worked with the TATR (Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve) authorities, especially the then field director Dr. Patil and donated 100 phones to shift the communication system of TATR from the inefficient and one way wireless communication to GSM, thereby increasing the communication with the field staff and patrolling units.

He has been featured in the worldwide press release of O'Connor for using the O'Connor 1030 Fluid Head during the shooting of his documentary film 'A Call in the Rainforest'. Please check the following link - O'Connor Press Release

An engineering and MBA education (BE in Metallurgy from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India in 1992 and MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, India in 1997), hasn’t stopped him from pursuing left brained activities like photography and filming– which is supposed to be a right brained activity.

He has worked in senior positions in various MNCs and Indian corporates. He was the Executive Director of MAIT (Manufacturers’ Association for IT) in Delhi, before dedicating himself to the cause of wildlife conservation and filmmaking. This has helped him understand the requirements of corporates better and sync well with senior leadership to make their interviews more meaningful.

Sabyasachi is available for filming with Canon Cinema EOS C300 camera, various DSLRs, Go Pros, aerial filming for Narratives, Corporates, wildlife and social documentaries etc. He can be booked by writing an email at administrator@indiawilds.com
